Youth
School Day
Vito Marcantonio Academy of the Creative Arts (V.M.A.C.A.)
Stickball partners with P.S./I.S. 50's Vito Marcantonio Academy of the Creative Arts to create a comprehensive printmedia curriculum that is delivered to all students in the middle grades. Working in coordination with P.S./I.S. 50's licensed arts teachers, Stickball provides additional classes and workshops during the school day for approximately 210 students each year. In addition, Stickball works with P.S./I.S. 50's administration to plan exciting and useful professional development opportunities for the staff.
After School
After School Press
Stickball offers after-school classes four days each week (free of charge) to students in grades 5-12. These classes are designed to educate and inspire youth to pursue arts learning and creative self-expression. Each of the studio courses and workshops offer great opportunities for skill development, critical thinking, experiential learning and preparation for careers and college. After-school workshops provide students with the opportunity to work in a studio environment and develop printmaking and digital art projects in collaboration with teaching artists. In addition to teaching printmedia techniques, these classes introduce students to guest-lecturing artists, engaging them with art and design issues.
Weekend Graphics
Stickball offers 10-week long, free classes for high school youth on Saturdays 3 times each year.
Summer
ArtWorks
During the summer, students are selected from local middle and high schools to participate in intensive four-six week paid internships. With guidance from professional artists, students work for community-based organizations or businesses, providing them with graphic arts services while learning work-based and artistic skills.
Portfolio Development Workshops for High School Students
Portfolio Development Workshops for High School Students
During the summer, Stickball selects high school students from across New York City to participate in an intensive two-week portfolio development workshop. Introducing students to printmedia arts, the workshop serves to accelerate and bolster students' art portfolios, allowing them to apply to art colleges and programs.
